EKVE

East Kelang Valley Express (EKVE) is a part of Kuala Lumpur Outer Ring Road (KLORR) which starts from Sg Long (north) at SILK highway connecting to Ukay Perdana (south). EKVE will spans around 39km, dual carriageway and expandable from 2 to 3 lanes. Part of the route includes a 200m tunnel. The estimated total cost is around RM2.2 billion.

EKVE is estimated to be completed in 2018. It will acts as an alternative route to congested MRR2 by providing bypasses for north-south bound traffic without entering KL City Centre.

Detailed alignment of the EKVE are as per map below.

EKVE has been divided into 3 packages:

1.  Sg Long to Sg Michu
2. Sg Long to Ukay Perdana
3. Upgrading Ukay Perdana

Concerns on EKVE project are as follows:

• Flash flood

It was observed that heavy downpour of rain especially at Ukay Perdana, the road will turns as a river due to in proper drainage system. Gravels and rubbish were also scattered on the road after the rain subsided.  

• Increase traffic at MRR2

The existing MRR2 highway which is dual 3 lanes highway is not able to cater for the additonal vehicles with the completion of EKVE. Should no actions taken by MRR2, the traffic will become worse.

• Environmental impact

De-gazetting of 106.6ha of the Ampang Forest Reserve (AFR) will impact on the existing flora and fauna.  

• Soil Erosion

Soil erosion due to the EKVE has been observed along the Ukay Perdana route. One example is Q Dees kindergarten at Bukit Antarabangsa. This follows the reported incident of some 50 pre-schoolchildren from Q-Dees kindergarten being forced to evacuate after earth fissures appeared in their playground. Several fissures measuring up to 30cm wide and stretching the entire length of the playground had appeared as result of earthworks carried out near a fence that separated the kindergarten from a monsoon drain.
